Day 294: Green Room (2015)

As you all saw earlier in the year, I was saddened by the death of Anton Yelchin who was taken from us way too soon. I saved the opportunity to watch today’s film because I wanted to have at least one film from him for Eddie’s 31 Days Of Halloween. That is why I chose to watch Green Room for today’s film. Anton plays a punk rock musician named Pat whose in a band called the Ain’t Rights. Everyone knows that being a musician isn’t always glorious and they certainly know that taking gigs for almost nothing. Well one day they are promised a decent pay out to play a gig at a Nazi skinhead bar. Everything goes right until Pat unknowingly walks into a murder scene which traps the band at the bar and they have to fight for their lives just to survive. The film also stars Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: The Next Generation) as Darcy, Joe Cole (Secret In Their Eyes) as Reece, Alia Shawkat (Whip It) as Sam, Callum Turner (Victor Frankenstein) as Tiger, David Thompson (A Christmas Story 2) as Tad, Macon Blair (Blue Ruin) as Gabe, Eric Edelstein (Jurassic World) as Big Justin, Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim Vs The World) as Daniel, Imogen Poots (Need For Speed) as Amber, and the film was directed by Jeremy Saulnier (Murder Party). Day 292: Dead Snow 2: Red Vs Dead (2014)

Back in 2009, a little known horror film called Dead Snow would take the horror world by surprise with Nazi Zombies attacking poor Norwegian kids in a mountain cabin. With that being said, I couldn’t pass up the chance to check out the sequel Dead Snow 2: Red Vs Dead (Død snø 2) for today’s film. Poor Martin (Vegar Hoel) has survived the horrific events of that unfaithful night, but he is being held by the police in suspicion of the murders of his friends. He soon discovers that Herzog (Ørjan Gamst), the leader of the Nazi Zombies is still on the hunt and he plans to kill everyone in a small Norweigan town. Martin has to escape and he has to figure out a way to stop them and he does with the help of a couple of Americans. The film also stars Martin Starr (Knocked Up) as Daniel, Jocelyn DeBoer (5 To 7) as Monica, Ingrid Haas (Scott Pilgrim Vs The World) as Blake, Stig Frode Henriksen (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) as Glenn, Hallvard Holmen (The Other Side Of Sunday) as Gunga, Amrita Acharia (Kiss The Devil In The Dark) as Reidun, Derek Mears (Friday The 13TH) as Stavarin, Kristoffer Joner (The Wave) as Sidekick Zombie, and the film was directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow). Day 225: Sausage Party (2016)

If there was ever a concept for a movie that sounded absolutely ridiculous then today’s film would definitely be that. The film that I chose for today is none other than the new animated film Sausage Party. All a piece of food, beverage, or product at a supermarket ever dreams about is being chosen so that they can go to the other side with the customers. What they don’t realize is the horrors that await them and one sausage by the name of Frank (Seth Rogen) tries to warn them as he too looks for the truth about his existence. The film also stars Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Carl, Kristen Wiig (Despicable Me 2) as Brenda, Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) as Darren, Edward Norton (Birdman Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)) as Sammy, Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down) as Honey Mustard, Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine) as Grits, Nick Kroll (The League) as Douche, Bill Hader (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs) as Firewater, James Franco (This Is The End) as Druggie, Selma Hayek (Desperado) as Teresa, Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim Vs The World) as Barry, David Krumholtz (Slums Of Beverly Hills) as Lavash, and the film was directed by Greg Tiernan (Thomas And Friends) and Conrad Vernon (Monsters Vs Aliens).

Spoiler Alert: There may be information contained in this Article that could potentially spoil the plot of the film so continue with caution or do not read any further if you do not want to know.While Sausage Party could either be the stupidest idea in the world that is just funny as hell or it could be the dumbest idea and movie. While I thought that it was definitely one of the funniest movies of the year, it definitely was a propaganda film for Seth Rogen and Co. The film is propaganda for Rogen and co to basically say FU to religion, sexual stereotypes, and more. The whole film, they believe that the God is allowing them to be chosen to go to the other side which is supposed to be glorious, but Frank ends up discovering that it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be and that there isn’t a God after all in his opinion. He treats the rest of the food like their all cattle because they refuse to go against their beliefs. Then there’s the innuendos like Sammy the Jewish bagel trying to get along with Lavash who is obviously middle eastern because he believes that Heaven contains 72 bottles of virgin oil. Then there is something special at the end that is his FU to people that are tolerant to people who choose to live a different lifestyle sexually. One of my favorite characters in the film by far is Douche who tells you like it is and drinks other products to get “juiced” up. One of my favorite scenes with him is when we see a pic of a women’s camel toe and he is describing to everybody how awesome it’s going to be to be inside her. Yes the film is VERY SEXUAL so be prepared for that and NO this is not a film you bring your young child to. Besides all the propaganda, I really loved the film and that is why I am going to give it an A- for a final grade. The propaganda and politically incorrect jokes is actually makes it funny in my opinion.

Day 146: Cooties (2014)

There are always films that get announced or you see some details and it gets you excited for it, but you end up waiting for it for a while. That was the case with today’s film Cooties which I had heard about back in 2014, but we finally have it here for you. Cooties follows aspiring writer and now substitute teacher Clint (Elijah Wood) as he returns home to Fort Chicken to teach at the elementary school. The only problem for Clint is that when he gets to school, a virus begins to spread that turns the children there into flesh eating zombies. Now Clint has to lead a group of ragtag teachers to safety before they are torn to shreds by the infected students. The film also stars Rainn Wilson (House Of 1000 Corpses) as Wade, Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim Vs The World) as Lucy, Jack McBrayer (The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret) as Tracy, Leigh Whannell (Insidious: Chapter 2) as Doug, Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live) as Rebekkah, Ian Brennan (Scream Queens) as Vice Principal Simms, Jorge Garcia (The Ridiculous 6) as Rick, Cooper Roth (The Road Within) as Patriot, Morgan Lily (X-Men: First Class) as Tamra, and the film was directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion.

At first before I watched the film I questioned why this never made it into theaters before it went straight to DVD. Then after watching the film, I can definitely figure out why it never made it and I am not saying that as a bad thing. This is definitely one of those films that is so bad that it’s awesome. I just figured that having Rainn Wilson, Elijah Wood, and Jack McBrayer would be enough to get into theaters, but it’s really funny regardless. One of the elements I loved about this film was the little quips that are thrown like a reference to The Lord Of The Rings series that Elijah Wood starred in at one time. It also helps that Rainn Wilson is absolutely hilarious and Leigh Whannell’s character was weird, but a very funny addition to the ensemble. I really believe that without all those factors I listed, this film would’t be as good or enjoyable to watch. One thing it will do is make you not want to eat chicken nuggets ever again as you see how they are made and what goes into them. One of the things I also liked about the film was how creative they were when you see one kid using intestines as jump rope or a human head on the end of a rope that is used for tetherball. It was those little things that made the film enoyable to watch, but it’s still a little cheesy at times. With that being said, I am going to give the film an B- for a final grade.
