History was made tonight when every single one of you took the time to vote and you helped a movie make history. Never in the history of the Monster Entertainment Awards has a film won more than two awards. Think about this right now, we have had some of the most amazing films come through here and only two have taken multiple awards home once. At the 3RD annual event, Fast & Furious 6 took home Bad Ass Movie Of The Year and Jason Statham took home Cameo Of The Year. At the 4TH annual event, Guardians Of The Galaxy took home Movie Of The Year and Superhero Movie Of The Year. Well as I said, history was made this year when the film IT won not two, but three awards. That is right, IT is taking home Movie Of The Year, Horror Film Of The Year, and Remake Of The Year. That is quite the impressive feat for a film to do as it has never been done before. That is just one piece of the big news that we had for you guys that we wanted to share. There were some surprises as far as who took home what and Fox proved for the second year in a row that they had the superior Marvel film once again shutting out DC for the fourth year in a row (Man Of Steel was the last and only win for them). One of the most surprising things about the awards is that there was a tight race for The Tommy Wiseau Worst Movie Of The Year Award and Sharknado 5 was not apart of that. What was not surprising is that a movie about Tommy Wiseau won Comedy Of The Year. Check out the winners below and we will see you all next year and congrats to Sean Young on the win!
Alright all my cinema lovers out there, it is time to vote for all your favorite films in different categories such as Movie Of The Year, Remake Of The Year, and the brand new Tommy Wiseau Worst Movie Of The Year award to name a few. For the first time in the history of the Monster Entertainment Awards, we will be hosting the movie side of the awards. After all, I once watched 366 movies, once a day, for 366 days in 2016. I think that is a pretty incredible accomplishment if you ask me, but with that being said, we are happy to do it here. Here we have some of your favorite categories like Movie Of The Year, Superhero Movie Of The Year, and Horror Film Of The Year to name a few, but we also have some new ones. We sadly got rid of Netflix show of the year because there is just too many of them and we also got rid of superhero show of the year because Netflix dominates. Now I want to remind you that not every single film made makes it on here because we are not the Oscars and we care for the movies that the everyday man/woman cares about. One thing that I did want to add is that we have a new category this year and it’s called The Tommy Wiseau Worst Movie Of The Year Award which of course goes to the worst film of 2017. Now I also want to remind everyone that you have until March 13TH to vote and decide who you want to win so choose wisely.
One of the biggest stories out of the summer and into the later stages of fall was whether or not DC Comics and Warner Brothers could follow the success of this past summers Wonder Woman with their own superhero team up movie Justice League. The one thing the company wanted to avoid was another mishap like Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, but I decided to check out the film and present it as this week’s Movie Of The Week. The film seems to take place a year or so after the events of BVS with the world mourning the death of their beloved Superman (Henry Cavill). I have over the last week or so have heard some mixed emotions about the film itself and whether it lives up to the billing or not and while some of it may be frustrating to you at least hear me out. I had a couple of concerns heading into the film with one being how are they going to work all of them together in one film and what was the overall feel of the film going to be. Is this the greatest film in the whole DC Universe? While in the end I truly believe now that BVS was good, this was a better film than that, but not better than Wonder Woman. I thought the way they presented all of the characters certainly worked for them because it felt sort of natural to me. The film in my opinion had the right amount of humor to go along with what DC’s overall look is and the chemistry feel natural to me as well. The action scenes were great and I even loved some of the sets they visit like Atlantis, etc. The one thing I sort of had an issue with was some of the CGI in the film because some of it was kind of cheesy at times. Other than that, it was a fun film to go in and watch without trying to be to analytical and judgmental. I was just super excited because my favorite superhero finally made an onscreen appearance in Aquaman. You don’t have to take my word for it, but I would at least give it a watch or two especially if you love some of these characters as I do. I am going to give Justice League an B+ for a final grade.
I am doing something new as I am reviewing all of the reviews that I did for the 365 Movies in 365 Days Challenge. There are some reviews that I look back on and I say to myself, what in the hell was I thinking? So, I am doing a segment on here called I’m Taking It Back which means I re-review the film and take my grade back. Before we get into why I am taking my grade I gave the film back, here is the synopsis of the film. After the death of Superman, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) has been trying to sell the government on the idea of project X. The idea of project x is to take the worst of the worst, give them an incentive, and have them do the missions no one else will do to protect the world. After Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) betrays Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) the government, the team now known as the Suicide Squad is commissioned and sent on a mission to save the world from the terror she brings. The Suicide Squad is made up of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Diablo (Jay Hernandez), and Katana (Karen Fukuhara). The film also stars Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker, Adam Beach (Flags Of Our Fathers) as Slipknot, Ben Affleck (The Town) as Batman, Scott Eastwood (Fury) as Lieutenant GQ Edwards, Alain Chanoine (Immortals) as Incubus, Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors) as Griggs, David Harbour (Black Mass) as Dexter Tolliver, and the film was directed by David Ayer (Fury).
So, I looked back at the film and then looked at my review and thought what in the hell was I thinking when I wrote that. I didn’t hate Suicide Squad by any means because I left the theater happy with it, but looking back on it how great was the film really? The film really did end up being the Will Smith show for the most part as he put no effort literally into his portrayal of Deadshot. I was OK with it at the time because I loved Will Smith, but looking back, he just made the film about him. Jared Leto was a pretty decent Joker as he tried to do what many before him did with their versions of the iconic character. I think the fact that David Ayer cut so much of his performance back really hurt his perception to the audience. The Joker is not a nice guy who is fun and loving, he is abusive to Harley and very sadistic and David Ayer screwed it all up by cutting out important moments out of the film. Now again, I thought this was a pretty decent film, but then Wonder Woman came out and made this look like amateur night. I also went back and rewatched BVS (Batman V Superman) and my opinion on rankings have changed as well. The best film so far is Wonder Woman, Man Of Steel, BVS, and then Suicide Squad last. I still love all of the action in the film and a lot of the characters, but let’s be honest here. In the end, I am going to give this film an B- for a final grade
This week’s choice for a film was kind of an obvious one considering that if you didn’t notice during the challenge that I am a huge horror fan. So, when I first heard that a remake of Stephen King’s It was going to be made, I just couldn’t wait for the next edition of Eddie’s 31 Days Of Halloween to see it. So I chose to watch the film It for this week’s Movie Of The Week which means we are all traveling back to the town of Derry, Maine for another horrifying experience. It’s the late 80’s and something weird is happening in the town of Derry as kids are disappearing, but that’s nothing new for this old town. Unfortunately for Bill (
Spoiler Alert: There is going to be some information leaked in this article that could give away some details or all the details in the film. So either proceed with caution or do not read any further, but you were warned. I am going to have to go back and rewatch the original film just to compare it, but what I remember from it was that it was very choppy because it was a made for TV thing when It came out. This one is not choppy at all and they go above and beyond just to try and scare the living crap out of you. I think another element that you can capitalize on is the fact that technology is a lot better today then it was then and it’s a Rated R film which means you can do more. I have to be honest in saying that while Tim Curry played an excellent Pennywise, they turned it up a notch in my opinion with this one. He was super creepy and some of the scenes were pretty intense from the basement scene with Georgie to the scene where the photos keep changing. They pretty much gave the actor a full license to just be super creepy and I loved it. All of the kids did an amazing job in the film at being who their characters are and even the kid who played Henry Bower was intense. He was so sadistic and insane that he made the original 1990’s Henry Bower (played by Jarred Blancard) look like a complete wimp.
There is one big but in there and that is because there are some things that might tick you off. So, I am going to give you a few examples to better explain what I mean. Number one and most important is that the film takes place in the 1980’s and not the late 1950’s. That is your reason for number two which is that Ritchie’s character is not as charming verbally as the original Seth Green (even he was a little too much at times). The film is long at 150 minutes, but it honestly did not feel like that to me when I was watching it. This may end up being one of the best horror films of the year as long as you can get over the fact that they changed some dialogue to update it to the 1980’s. They also have admitted to not using every detail that the 1000 plus page book has given us because some are just not OK to show on the silver screen. They did stay true however with certain symbols that you should look out for in the film like a turtle because they are symbolic of what’s to come in part 2. Now we just have to wait for the next film to finish the story, but I definitely think that this is one that you shouldn’t ignore. I am going to give the film an A for a final grade.
Today the horror world lost yet another legend when legendary director Tobe Hooper passed away at the age of 74 on Saturday in his home in Sherman Oaks, California. Tobe Hooper was the man responsible for bringing us one of the original slashers in Leatherface for 1974’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre before moving on to direct such classics as Salem’s Lot, The Funhouse, and 1982’s Poltergeist. Tobe changed the face of horror whether he knew it at the time in 1974, but he helped cement the building blocks for the Slasher horror genre. Tobe’s work didn’t stop in the 80’s as he provided us with some classics in the 90’s to 2000’s like The Mangler, Toolbox Murders, Mortuary, before he directed his final film in 2013 in Djinn. The most anticipated film from Warner Brothers and DC Comics is most definitely the film Wonder Woman which stars Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious) as the Amazonian title character that officially hits theaters later today. With the release of the film, DC Comics because the first entity in this war of comic worlds to release a film where the lead character is a woman. A risky endeavor for the company who has been falling behind, but a very bold one. The film is a flashback into how Diana Prince became Wonder Woman from her early life in Themyscira to the day English spy Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) lands in the ocean near the island. You see she live son an island that is surrounded by Amazonian women as a way to protect them from Aries the God of war. The very fact that Steve lands there threatens their everyday life…
I am going to give you the spoiler alert warning right from the beginning because the film I about to review is too amazing that I may spill some details. Spoiler Alert: There is going to be some information leaked in this article that could give away some details or all the details in the film. From the minute that it was announced that Hugh Jackman (X-Men) was going to star in his very last X-Men/Wolverine related film ever I had to see it for myself. Jackman stars in Logan, a film that looks at a much older Wolverine than we are used to in a very different world. There are hardly any mutants left on Earth after many of them were killed. Logan goes by a different name to disguise himself amongst the non mutants of society. All of that is put to risk when a young girl who is believed to be a new mutant shows up at his compound on the border of Mexico. Now Wolverine has to gather up Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and the little girl named Laura (
There is so much to praise about this film that I do not know where to start. The story is absolutely captivating as we are introduced to Weapon X-23 (Laura) who is basically Logan’s daughter because of how she was made. We see this guy who has never known how to love because of the fact that he feels that everything he loves dies. Then the girl comes along and she challenges all of that throughout the whole film. He also has to deal with a very sick Charles Xavier who by the way is a weapon of mass destruction because of what his mind can do and I love how they explored that angle in this film. The film has the feel of an X-Men movie without the 100% look of one and that is what I loved about the film. It is stylistically like a Johnny Cash song, it feels very melancholic in tone almost like you know the end is near and you’re on this last ride. The acting was absolutely amazing from everyone and the back and forth dialogue between Stewart and Jackman is absolute gold. You almost feel like they are father and son the way they banter at each other in the film. This may just be the best X-Men movie or Wolverine movie ever made and I know that it’s a bold statement to make, but after watching this it’s true. The script was amazing, the acting was amazing, the cinematography was amazing, the soundtrack to the film was amazing, so what more could you possibly want from the film? If you do not go out and see this then you don’t know what you are missing. Make sure you get to the theater on time because there is something special from someone in the beginning that is hilarious. I am giving the film an A+ for a final grade.
I didn’t get to watch the whole special because I couldn’t get a feed where I was, but I caught the last half hour which is essentially all you needed to see last night especially the ending. It was that time of the show where it was time to reveal the winner of Best Picture and Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty were presenting the award. When Beatty was about to read the winner, he seemed very confused so he would occasionally stop so Faye had to read the card and she announced La La Land as the winner of best picture. So, the whole entire crew came on stage and were giving their speech when it was revealed by the film’s producer Jordan Horowitz and Warren Beatty that there was an epic mistake. Jordan would reveal that the real winner of the award went to Moonlight and he waited on stage so that he could personally give them the award. That right there my friends is a very embarrassing moment for the Oscars and one that almost gets Steve Harvey off the hook for his epic blunder. There were a lot of surprises that night including that one because I thought for sure that La La Land was going to clean house. I knew that Casey Affleck was going to win Best Actor, but I thought that Dev Patel was going to win best supporting.
